“My sister-in-law’s children destr0yed my brand-new car with a baseball bat—and when I discovered that SHE HAD ACTUALLY TOLD THEM TO DO IT, I decided it was finally time for her to face the consequences
My husband’s sister, Megan, has always been jealous, demanding, and incredibly entitled.
She regularly appears at our house WITHOUT WARNING, leaves her two children—ages five and seven—with me, and expects me to babysit whenever she feels like it.
Her favorite excuse is always the same.
“You don’t have kids, so it’s not like you have anything better to do.”
Most of the family avoids confronting Megan because they know how difficult she becomes when someone challenges her.
Unfortunately for her, I’m usually the one person willing to tell her when she’s crossed a line.
And she absolutely HATES me for it.
Her resentment became painfully obvious after my husband and I finally purchased a brand-new crossover.
Getting that car had been a huge accomplishment for us.
For several years, money had been extremely tight.
We were helping pay off medical expenses from my mother’s cancer treatment, while our old vehicle had become so unreliable that we were constantly worried it would break down.
So my husband and I started saving every extra dollar we could.
It took THREE YEARS.
When we finally drove our new crossover home, we were incredibly proud of it.
Not long afterward, we decided to host a family barbecue at our house.
Everyone came over, including Megan and her kids.
At some point, Megan told the children to go play baseball farther away from the adults so nobody would accidentally get hit by the ball.
Nothing about it seemed unusual.
Then, about ten minutes later…
I heard the unmistakable sound of GLASS BREAKING.
Everyone froze.
A second later, several of us rushed toward the driveway.
The moment I saw my car, my stomach dropped.
My BRAND-NEW crossover had been attacked with the baseball bat.
And this clearly hadn’t been one accidental swing.
One side mirror was shattered.
The windshield was badly cracked.
A massive dent had been driven into the side door.
There were several other marks across the body of the vehicle.
I could barely believe what I was seeing.
Then I turned toward Megan.
“You’re paying for the repairs.”
Instead of apologizing, she LAUGHED.
“THEY’RE KIDS!” she shouted. “I’m not paying for anything. How is that MY problem?”
I was furious.
But I didn’t want the entire barbecue to explode into a screaming match in front of everyone.
So I forced myself to stay calm.
We eventually went back inside, although I was already thinking about what I was going to do next.
Then something happened that changed everything.
As I walked past another room, I heard Megan whispering to her children.
At first, I wasn’t intentionally listening.
Then I heard her PRAISING them.
She told them they had done EXACTLY what she had instructed them to do.
And because they had followed her directions so well, she promised to buy them the toys they had been asking for.
I stopped cold.
Suddenly, everything made sense.
The damage hadn’t been an accident.
The children hadn’t simply lost control of the baseball bat.
MEGAN HAD SENT THEM TO DESTROY MY CAR.
She had deliberately used her own young children to damage something she knew my husband and I had spent three years working and saving for.
That was the moment I decided I was finished protecting her from the consequences of her behavior.
I didn’t confront her immediately.
I didn’t scream.
I didn’t warn her.
Instead, I quietly stepped away and made ONE PHONE CALL.
Then I arranged for a very specific BOX to be delivered directly to Megan’s house.
A short time later, my phone rang.
The second I answered, Megan was already screaming.
Apparently…
She had OPENED THE BOX.
And judging by the sound of her voice, she finally understood that destroying my car had been a very expensive mistake.
